CASI Chili Cook-Off

We’re looking for individuals and organizations who want to have fun and promote their business!

This chili competition is open to anyone (individuals or organizations) with a pot, a stove and a great chili recipe! We’d like to invite you to sponsor a team to cook chili at this event. It’s fun, it’s easy and it’s a great way to spread the word about the great work you do in our community. The cook-off will be held inside a large heated pavilion with wine and beer tastings and live music all day.  The entry fee is only $15 and goes to support local non-profit organizations. You are welcome to bring signs, brochures and other materials to promote your business or organization.

C.A.S.I.CHILI COOK-OFF RULES: (If you would like to bring chili cooked at home, please read section below)

  • Chili Cook-Off will feature competition for Chili Appreciation Society International (CASI) red chili and an open/green chili division. All cooks are requested to make a minimum of three (3) gallons of each chili entry for public tasting, including the sample submitted for judging.

  • CASI Red Chili is chili that meets the guidelines of the CASI organization. This is a ground beef only competition. No fillers (beans, pasta, etc.) may be added. CASI chili must be cooked on site, starting with raw meat. Other ingredients can be prepared, but not cooked, in advance. For full information, see www.chili.org/chili.html

  • Green Chili includes green, vegetarian or other chili not prepared in accordance to the CASI Red Chili guidelines. Chili in this category must be cooked on site during the cook-off. However, ingredients may be prepared in advance.

  • Showmanship – Teams are encouraged to create a theme for their chili team. This can include costumes, table decorations and pandering to the crowd and judges. No fire arms or pyrotechnics allowed! Only teams entered into the CASI Red Chili Division will be judged on Showmanship.

  • Teams are limited to four (4) people per team for free entrance to the festival. ($100 value) Others must pay full ticket price.

  • All teams must provide their own equipment including chairs, tables, propane stoves, cooking pots and utensils. All teams must have a working fire extinguisher. FEES:

  • Entry fee is $15.00 for the first entry, and $5.00 per additional entry. All checks payable to Colorado Chili Pod.

  • To make certain we provide appropriate set up, judging and awards, please register by January 4. Space is limited, so get your registration in early!

Home-Cooked Chili Rules: (If you would like to compete with the pros, please read section above)

 

  • Any type of chili is welcome – Veggie, meat, beans, red, white, green….whatever you like!

  • You do not have to cook on site. Cook your chili entry at home and then bring it to the Festival.

  • Teams must bring a minimum of four (4) gallons of HEATED chili. Bring chili in a pot WITH a lid. Label both with your name and phone/email.

  • When you arrive at your table, chafing dishes and sterno will be provided for you to serve out of.

  • Pour your chili into the Chaffer. --Find the hot box (inside building) and store your extra chili there.

  • We will fill your chaffer as needed with your extra chili.

  • Teams must provide their own serving utensils. Bring two serving spoons.

  • Teams must provide their own chairs.

  • A panel of judges will determine 1st, 2nd and 3rd place prizes for “homegrown chili.”

  • Teams are allowed up to 4 people per team for FREE entrance to the festival. ($100 value)
